Another malicious app gets added to the Google Play Store that can take over the entire functionality of your smartphone. SonicSpy, a new malicious app that entails three varieties of malware software controls all the functionalities of your smartphones even after residing miles away from the phone.
The app can come on your mobile phone through Google Play Store. Those who download the SonicSpy from Google Play Store are putting their smartphone at high risk. The app wears the fake mask and shows that it is a messaging app but in actual its isn’t a messaging app but an application that takeovers all the functionalities of the smartphone including Wifi data, text messages, video call details, contacts and call details.
The hackers group is located in Iraq that made an experiment on the famous messaging app called as Telegram. They developed a malicious code with a desire to affect this particular messaging app. Later, in order to infect other apps, they changed the name of their original app and renamed it as Troy Chat, Soniac, and Hulk Messenger.
Lookout researchers first made an attempt to capture this malicious app. Michael Flossman, one of the researchers from Lookout said, “Google Play Store isn’t the only way from where the malicious app can enter your phone, there are a number of other ways as well. Other ways included – clicking specific links, downloading the app from non-google app shops, and direct fraudulent activities carried out through email.”
Using android apps to make an entry into the smartphone is relatively common today. The other technique the researchers used this time i.e. SonicSpy app is comparatively cheaper. Lookout says, about 47 in every 1000 devices are seemed to be affected by this malicious software.
The master minds behind this technique appeared to be very efficient in entering into the smartphone world. They have adapted the procedure that is entirely automatic.
